🤖 AI Summary

📝 Summary:

A discussion details a widespread issue with new Kia Seltos vehicles having multiple dents on the nose cone, specifically the strip in front of the bonnet where the Kia badge is located #1. Kia has acknowledged this as a "manufacturing fault with the way the panel was pressed" at the factory, not a warranty issue #1. However, the original poster and other owners express skepticism about Kia's claim of recent awareness, as many Seltos owners were unaware of the dents and had not been contacted by Kia, even after months or years of ownership and dealer services #1 #4 #5. Consumer advice suggests that if the issue cannot be fixed or replaced, and if knowledge of the dents would have prevented the purchase, owners are entitled to a full refund #3. There's a strong recommendation to write to dealers for a refund, with mentions of a potential "Class Action Lawsuit coming" #3 #6. One user notes a similar issue with Cadillac DTS years ago #7, while another downplays the dents as "indistinguishable" and not affecting vehicle ability #9.

TL;DR:
✅ Point 1: Brand new Kia Seltos vehicles are being delivered with multiple dents on the nose cone due to a manufacturing fault #1.
✅ Point 2: Kia acknowledged the defect but owners report being unaware and uncontacted, despite the issue being widespread and visible #1 #4 #5.
✅ Point 3: Consumers are advised to seek a full refund if the defect cannot be fixed or replaced, with a class action lawsuit being considered #3 #6.

🔎 Key Insights:
Insight 1: The defect involves up to 12 dents on the Seltos nose cone, including under the Kia badge, caused by a panel pressing fault at the factory #1.
Insight 2: Despite Kia's claim of recent awareness, many Seltos owners, some with cars for over a year and serviced by dealers, were unaware of the dents and had not been notified by Kia #1 #4 #5.
Insight 3: Consumer protection advice suggests that if the dents are not fixable/replaceable and would have deterred purchase, owners are entitled to a full refund, countering any argument from Kia that the dents are a standard feature #3.
Insight 4: There is a contrasting opinion that the dents are "indistinguishable" and do not affect the vehicle's ability, being merely a "result from the machining of the body part" #9.

🎯 Conclusion: A significant number of Kia Seltos vehicles are affected by a widespread manufacturing defect causing dents on the nose cone. While Kia acknowledges the issue, owners report a lack of communication and awareness, leading to calls for refunds and potential legal action.

Mum just bought a brand new Seltos and it’s dented across top of the nose cone
The strip just in front of the bonnet where the Kia badge is. There’s 12 dents across the front of the car. Even under the Kia badge itself….
I have a video won’t upload so I took a couple of screen shots in the post below
Kia acknowledged there is an issue. It’s not a warranty issue it’s defective they said
“There’s a manufacturing fault with the way the panel was pressed in the kia factory.”

Of course they have “only just been made aware of the issue, and are in the process of contacting owners about the issue….”
Which I find impossible to believe
Because

>>They didn’t know mums car had an issue, even though it’s plain as day….

>>I have seen other Seltos owners on the road, every one was dented. So I stopped them to tell them about the dents. They hadn’t seen them, AND HADNT HEARD FROM KIA EVEN THOUGH THEY HAD THEIR CARS FOR MONTHS, SOME OVER A YEAR WITH NO KNOWLEDGE.
Many of these owners had services done at the dealer in between with no notification of any dents/problems….

Consumer Biz Affairs and ACC suggest to put your complaint in writing

If it can’t be fixed
Or replaced
And if having known about the dents would have made you not buy your Seltos
You’re entitled to a full refund
Kia will argue that’s how they are
But this is false because the dents aren’t the same on every Seltos
If this was a feature of the car they would be standard / the same on all models
Other models look similar and have similar panels. None of these cars have the same manufacturing fault as the Seltos

Write to your dealer
Ask for a refund
Class Action Lawsuit coming

Had mine for 6 months and yes mine has the dents. No word from Kia but they will be made aware of it

I bought mine in 2020. One day I noticed indents bubble like, on front panel where Kia badge. Went to dealer after friend told me he could see it as well. That was 6 ago. Still waiting to hear back. Car dealers are useless, they don’t care after they sell you a car.

How's the lawsuit process?

Cadillac had a similar issue with the DTS years ago. I don't remember anything about it being resolved...

May I ask what year model the dents on, I am looking at buting a Seltos in the near future. Thanks

Fret not my friend. They are truly indistinguishable. They in no way hamper the vehicle's ability. Purely a result from the machining of the body part
